Wire Wrapped "Lyra" Pendant Tutorial for Donut-Shaped Stones

Wire Wrapped "Lyra" Pendant Tutorial for Donut-Shaped Stones

Learn how to create a stunning reversible pendant using a donut-shaped stone and a couple of gauges of wire. It's adorned with pretty swirly accents on both sides and is perfect for those who enjoy fidget jewelry since the stone turns nicely in the frame.

Materials Needed:

  • 20 gauge round wire
  • 28 gauge round wire for weaving
  • Donut-shaped stone (approximately 37 mm in diameter)
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Round nose pliers
  • Flush cutters
  • Flat nose pliers
  • Ruler
  • Sharpie or wire marker
  • Spring clamp or ring clamp

Step 1: Preparing the Wire: Begin by cutting four 10-inch segments of 20-gauge wire. Mark each wire in the middle at 5 inches using your Sharpie.

Step 2: Weaving the Frame: Place the wires in your clamp to make weaving easier. (You can also use the "wire stacking" method if you don't have a clamp).

Begin weaving at the 5 inch mark. First, place the 28-gauge wire in between the two sets of base wires and wrap it around the 2nd to last base wire 2-3 times.

Then, wrap the weaving wire around the middle 2 base wires 2 times.

Next, bring the wire in between the woven wires, then over and under the 4 base wires and back in between the woven wires.

Wrap the weaving wire around the 2 middle base wires 2 times, again.

Continue weaving this pattern until you reach about 1 1/4".

Step 3: Creating Swirl Accents: After weaving approximately 3/4 of an inch, separate the wires into two groups and create swirl accents on both sides of the stone using flat nose pliers.

Coil the wire around one of the base wires to create the swirls.

Step 4: Attaching the Stone: Feed the other end of your work through the hole in the donut stone and bend the woven wire straight up to secure it.

Create a lashing weave around the 2 outer wires closest to you that measures about 2".

Then, coil the adjacent wire until it reaches the same length.

Next, swirl the lashed wire upward towards the top of the stone.

Follow the lashing weave wire with the coiled and bare wires.

Step 5: Weave the Reverse Side/Completing the Piece: Trim any excess wire and secure the swirls to the frame using weaving wire.

Continue weaving until you reach 3/4" to create the bail.

Next, fold the woven wire forward.

Separate the wires into two 2 wires groups.

Weave another lashing weave that is about 1 1/4" long.

Coil the adjacent wire to the same length.

Then create a loop directed downward.

Follow the lashing weave with the coiled and bare wires.

Create loops at the end and secure them to the "Diamond" weave.

And there you have it, your beautiful Lyra Donut-Shaped Stone Pendant is complete! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
